Runescape Friday Funny

Sorry Picture Not Found

This week we are looking at the great online adventure game "Runescape", which my son used to play a lot, before he started becoming a teenager.

Apart from the actual online adventure game, there are endless spinoffs

in the form of "Machinima" animations and "RSMV" (Runescape Music Videos).

It is these two genres of entertainment on You Tube that we will be looking at today. Runescape players capture game play using Hypercam or Camtasia and then put the footage into movie maker software and overdub, add effects, and thereby make their own spin off movies.

Okay then, this week's FF may not be outrageously funny, but it will certainly be educational.

Here is a typical Runescape Animation to get us started:

Now for most people that was probably way out there. Bob is the avatar of Runescape player "Bob IRL" who is the Monkey character operating the computer, and "plox" means "please".... so are we starting to get any of it yet ???

All right, this next clip should help unravel more of the story.

In fact it will tell us the full story of how Runescape was created in the first place.

And here is a video all about the begginnings of the legendary Runescape player "Bob IRL":

Now there are many "Bob IRL" videos on You Tube, as well as many "Teh Noob Show" Runescape play sequences, but this next clip is definitely one of our favorites here at Passy World:

If you really liked these clips then go to the Noob Show's You Tube channel at:

and to their facebook page at:

You Know You are a Runescape Noob when:
  • Chickens are red to you.
  • A guy offers you full steel for free and you say "no thanks I have full bronze its better".
  • You know Lumbridge castle like the back of your hand.
  • Chickens are a challenge for you.
  • Men lvl 9 is WAY out of your reach.
  • You have only cooked 1 out of 4578 raw chickens, the rest are burnt.
  • You keep burnt meet and try to sell it.
  • You can't even mine tin and copper.
  • You have your own respawn spot for were you die.
  • You brag to your friends about buying a rusty iron dagger and a medium bronze helmet.
  • The farthest from Lumbridge you've been is still in Lumbridge.

Let's now look at some RSMV music film clips.

First up, here is a great Linkin Park song:

There are lots of these RSMV clips to be found on You Tube, just search on "RSMV", and don't plan going anywhere for at least a couple of hours!

Here is a great RSMV clip of one of our very favorite Foo Fighters songs:

And the really cool thing about RSMV is that we can discover all kinds of new songs we've never heard before like this one:

It has been really hard to choose from all the great RSMV clips on the Tube, but we figure we just have to include this great one of the Korn song "Word Up":

You Know you Play Runescape too much when:
  • Packages are sent to you in your Runescape name.
  • You rename your street Varrock.
  • You smith noobs full rune armor just to see them cry when they can't wear it.
  • They made a village named after you.
  • You go to a corner store and try to sell a bronze square shield saying its worth 23 gp.
  • You walk around saying "Selling my lunch Shout 123 to buy".

And saving the very best for last, here is an absolute classic:

Runescape meets Machinima meets Chicken Jokes:

Hope this post wasn't too foul of an experience for our dedicated fans.

If Runescape is not your cup of tea, then you may not have laughed a whole lot, or you may have even lost the plot.

But let's hope it's all okay, and you get yourself a weekend with the lot!

Fireworks Alien Pictures

Sorry Picture Not Found

Adobe Fireworks is a great tool for creating artistic drawings. It is simple for beginners to use, and has a vast array of special effect textures and paint brushes.

See previous post about this, (including "How To" instructions), by clicking this link: Draw a House in Fireworks

The following Wondershare slideshow showcases the recent efforts of my Year 7 and Year 8 multimedia students.

The brief was that they had to make an Alien Space picture. They were allowed to use up to two images from the Internet, but had to draw the rest of the picture using Adobe Fireworks.

Note that we can click on the bottom of the slideshow on the "Manual Play" option at any time. We can then advance through the photos one by one at our own pace. This allows us to stop for longer on the photos that we really like, and quickly bypass the ones that we are not interested in.

(Push the Play button arrow below if the slideshow is not already running).

If you would like to see the above slideshow full size, then click on this link:

Adobe Fireworks is a great tool for beginners to use, as it has some brilliant special effects available that are very easy to use.

Fireworks is a great preliminary application to learn, prior to moving onto the more advanced features of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

A Very Fishy Friday Funny

Sorry Picture Not Found

Another Friday has rolled around, and we are running with this week's theme of beaches and fishing.

So let's get straight into it with this old favorite TV ad of ours from John West. Unfortunately the quality is not the greatest, but the content and story are superb.

Here is another great John West ad that we found on You Tube.

Fishy Jokes - Part 1

Where do shellfish go to borrow money ?
- To the prawn broker !

What do you call a big fish who makes you an offer you can't refuse ?
- The Codfather !

How could the dolphin afford to buy a house ?
- He prawned everything !

What happened to the shark who swallowed a bunch of keys ?
- He got lockjaw !

What do you get from a bad-tempered shark ?
- As far away as possible !

What did the sardine call the submarine ?
- A can of people !

What's the difference between a fish and a piano ?
- You can't tuna fish !

Why are sardines the stupidest fish in the sea ?
- Because they climb into tins, close the lid and leave the key outside !

What's the coldest fish in the sea ?
- A blue whale !

Which fish can perform operations ?
- A Sturgeon !

Now here at Passy World we have never seen a "Sturgeon" fish, but apparently they can get pretty damn big:

Sorry Picture Not Found

All right then, let's take a look at another video of funny fishing experiences that happen if you fall asleep by the shoreline.

And if you thought that one was a bit out there, then this one is so far out it's from another galaxy!

Here is a funny photo that we found on the net by Googling on "Funny Fish" (brilliant hey!).

When someone said to these guys to grab a pole and go fishing, something was perhaps taken a bit too literally in the translation?

Sorry Picture Not Found

Fishy Jokes - Part 2

Where do you find a down-and-out octopus ?
- On squid row !

What do you call a fish with no eyes ?
- Fsh !

How do fish go into business ?
- They start on a small scale !

What lives in the ocean, is grouchy and hates neighbours ?
- A hermit crab !

What fish only swims at night ?
- A starfish !

Which fish go to heaven when they die ?
- Angelfish !

Now it is a bit of a long running debate as to whether girlfriends and fishing could ever make a great combination.

Not meaning to be sexist or anything, but let's face a bit of statistical reality folks: Generally guys go fishing without their better halves.

There are several very good reasons for this, as per the following video clip:

And while we're looking at how romance fits into the whole fishing and beer drinking loves of a typical man's life, let's check out this little fishing adventure:

Now here's a guy who's really in love with his latest big catch!

Sorry Picture Not Found

Some guys have such a love of fishing, that it's hard to tell what they love more:
The fishing or Their Loved One.

Fishy Jokes - Part 3

What kind of money do fishermen make ?
- Net profits !

What kind of fish goes well with ice-cream ?
- Jellyfish !

To whom do fish go to borrow money ?
- The loan shark !

Who held the baby octopus to ransom ?
- Some Squidnappers !

What did the boy octopus say to the girl octopus ?
- I wanna hold you hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand !

What do you get if you cross a trout with an apartment ?
- A flat fish !

What would a Friday Funny be without a bit of music, and so here is is:
Bob the Builder with that old fave: "Big Fish Little Fish".

Okay folks, Big Passy hasn't hooked any gigantic fish lately, but he's definitely hooked on fishing and working on it.

Frankston Beach Photos 2010

Sorry Picture Not Found

Recently we went down to Frankston beach on a lazy Sunday morning to do a walk around and take some photos.

We found people partaking of all sorts of relaxing activities from walking their dogs, playing with their children, fishing, boating, kayaking, sailing, reading the newspaper, and just sitting around talking.

The following Wondershare photo slideshow has photos taken around the Frankston Pier and the waterfront area. Frankston is located on Port Phillip Bay, about one hour from the city of Melbourne in Australia. Passy World HQ is located about a 20 minute drive from Frankston, and so it is somewhere we can easily visit on a weekend.

Note that we can click on the bottom of the slideshow on the "Manual Play" option at any time. We can then advance through the photos one by one at our own pace. This allows us to stop for longer on the photos that we really like, and quickly bypass the ones that we are not interested in.

If you would like to see the above slideshow full size, then click on this link:

There were a few guys out on the Pier fishing, and Andrew and Damien were a couple of great guys that we decided to do an on-the-spot interview with for Passy's World. Here is the first part of the Interview.

(It may take a minute or two to load in and start playing. Mouse on and off the clip to get video and volume controls available).

Here is the second part of the Interview, where Andrew shows us how to set up an excellent fishing rig for catching Gar Fish.

So that's about it for how to spend a great a great Sunday morning at the beach.

Nursing a Friday Funny

Sorry Picture Not Found

This week we decided that we would take a look at those wonderful women (and men) who take on Nursing as their profession, and all the good work that they do, and get so little appreciation for.

We have some friends
who are Nurses and have told us what it is like. Hopefully they will find something funny to cheer them up in this post.

Nursing certainly is a thankless and exhausting job:

Sorry Picture Not Found

Not at all helped by some of the Doctors they have to work with:

Sorry Picture Not Found

So why would anyone want to become a Nurse anyway?

Maybe it was for one or more of these noble reasons.

Top Ten Reasons to Become a Nurse

1) Pays better then fast food, though the hours aren't as good.

2) Fashionable shoes and sexy white uniforms.

3) Needles: "Tis better to give than receive"

4) Reassure your patients that all bleeding stops...eventually.

5) Expose yourself to rare, exciting and new diseases.

6) Interesting aromas.

7) Courteous and infallible doctors who always leave clear orders in perfectly legible handwriting.

8) Do enough charting to navigate around the world.

9) Celebrate all the holidays with your friends - at work.

10) Take comfort that most of your patients survive no matter what you do to them.

It has been rather difficult to find good usable videos about Nursing for this blog post because:
  • Many were not appropriate for our Blog's PG Rating
  • Many good ones like "Mad TV" have embedding disabled on them, so we can't put them into our own web page.
But we did mention to find a couple of classic Monty Python clips.

And here is their other one featuring the famous "Gumby" characters. These Gumby dudes wear handkerchiefs over their heads, and seem to be quite mentally impaired, as you will see.

So if you think a Gumby Doctor is someone to be worried about, then what about if an evil Joker Nurse gets you in his sights:

Now I know that we did cover Zombies recently on this site. In fact it was only in last week's Friday Funny that we took a good in depth look at them. However, there was an oversight in us not including any Zombie Nurses. Just take a look at this gorgeous and caring health provider:

All right then, time we included some of the male nurses of the profession. Here are some guys in the operating room butchering the daylights out of one of our favorite country rock songs.

So by now we probably have everyone totally confused. So maybe we had better take a cold hard look at what being a nurse is really like.

You Know You Are a Nurse If...

You believe every patient needs TLC: Thorazine, Lorazepam and Compazine.

You would like to meet the inventor of the call light in a dark alley one night.

You believe not all patients are annoying ... some are unconscious.

Your sense of humor seems to get more "warped" each year.

You know the phone numbers of every late night food delivery place in town by heart.

You can only tell time with a 24 hour clock.

Almost everything can seem humorous ... eventually.

When asked, "What color is the patient's diarrhea?", you show them your shoes.

Every time you walk, you make a rattling noise because of all the scissors and clamps in your pockets.

You can tell the pharmacist more about the medicines he is dispensing than he can.

You carry "spare" meds in your pocket rather than wait for pharmacy to deliver.

You refuse to watch ER because it's too much like the real thing and triggers "flash backs."

You check the caller ID when the phone rings on your day off to see if someone from the hospital is trying to call to ask you to work.

You've been telling stories in a restaurant and had someone at another table throw up.

You notice that you use more four letter words now than before you became a nurse.

Every time someone asks you for a pen, you can find at least three of them on you.

You can intubate your friends at parties.

You don't get excited about blood loss ... unless it's your own.

You live by the motto, "To be right is only half the battle, to convince the physician is more difficult."

You've basted your Thanksgiving turkey with a Toomey syringe.

You've told a confused patient your name was that of your coworker and to HOLLER if they need help.

Eating microwave popcorn out a clean bedpan is perfectly natural.

Your bladder can expand to the same size as a Winnebago's water tank.

When checking the level of orientation of a patient, you aren't sure of the answer.

You find yourself checking out other customer's arm veins in grocery waiting lines.

You can sleep soundly at the hospital cafeteria table during dinner break, sitting up and not be embarrassed when you wake up.

You avoid unhealthy looking shoppers in the mall for fear that they'll drop near you and you'll have to do CPR on your day off.

You also know you are a Nurse if you've ever been in a situation like this one:

Sorry Picture Not Found

Finally let's finish off with a classic song by Kenny Loggins called "Footloose" for all those hard working student nurses.

(Love the dancing in this clip, it really has that good fun feel good vibe to it).

So let's hope not too many of us are nursing giant hangovers this weekend,

Drawing Houses in Fireworks

Sorry Picture Not Found

Adobe CS3 Fireworks has some excellent drawing tools available for use in producing Vector Art.

As a beginner's exercise, I have my students draw a basic house picture, just like they would as a young child in Primary School.

Similar pictures can be made using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. However Fireworks is much less complicated and easy to use for beginning students, with some amazing special effects paint brushes and fills.

The following Wondershare slideshow showcases the efforts of my Year 7 and Year 8 multimedia students. (Unfortunately there wasn't enough room to put everyone's houses into this Slide Show).

The following PDF document gives tips for drawing various parts of a typical House drawing in Fireworks.

If you would like to have your own full size copy of this PDF, then simply click the save disk icon button on the PDF viewer, and you should be able to save it to your own hard disk.

Alternatively, you can view or save the full size PDF by clicking the link below:

In their next project the students will make Aliens in Space pictures. They will then move onto making pictures using Bezier Curves.

More on these in some future blog posts.

Friday Funny for Zombies

Sorry Picture Not Found

Recently some friends of ours went on a "Zombie Shuffle" through the city of Melbourne with around 7,000 other people.

This gave us some good ideas for zombifying our Friday Funny, and so before someone steals your brains, or you drop dead of boredom, we better get on with this.

Well first and foremost we need to get everyone up to speed on what Zombies are, why they are dangerous, and what sorts of educational information is useful in this area. YouTube to the rescue, with this wonderfully educational short film:

Now here is something you don't see everyday: a "Creepy Puppets Production" of some zombie jokes.

There is actually a whole series of these CPP videos on YouTube, but today we are just featuring the one dead offering.

At Passy World we also love inspirational posters, and this one would have to be King of the Zombies:

And now for a quick word from our sponsors:

Ivan Rockstar is a cool dude on YouTube who has some great guitar "How To" videos that we should really feature sometime here on Passy World, but today we are looking at a zombie street talk interview series he has done.

Now you know how it is when you are at the Video Library, and you just can't find that special movie to watch.

Well maybe "Zombie Land" could be the one.

(Up to almost 5 million views on YouTube for this great little trailer so far).

So I guess that's about it. I'm feeling like a Zombie here at the end of another long week, and so I guess I'll just shuffle my way into another relaxing weekend.

Online Testing with That Quiz

Sorry Picture Not Found

"That Quiz" is a great online testing application located at:

There are plenty of Mathematics, English, Science, and Geography quizes that anyone can pick to do online for free.

Here is a typical Mathematics Quiz Question:

Sorry Picture Not Found

Note that on the left hand side, we can set the difficulty for the questions (50 is the hardest), and we can also chose which type of questions we want to do.

As you do each question in the quiz you have chosen, a timer clock runs, and it updates the number of right and wrong answers as you go. It does not immediately supply the correct answer for wrong ones. It does however give us the answers at the end of the quiz. We also get a chance to redo the wrong questions after we have completed the quiz.

Here is a typical end of quiz results screen:

Sorry Picture Not Found

There are also interesting science quizes like this one, where we move the names of the bones on the human body to their correct positions on the skeleton:

Sorry Picture Not Found

Teachers Using That Quiz

Teachers can join up for free and create class groups, as well as quizes for each of these groups to do.

The teacher can select from a data bank of questons that are rated levels 1 to 3 in difficulty, and can also decide the total number of questions in the quiz.

The system allocates a unique code for each test that the teacher creates on the system.

Students then go to "That Quiz" website, and can enter this test code, scroll down to pick their name off the class list, and then do the test. The results for each student are then stored on the system.

Their teacher can then view the class, pick out a student, and view their test results. We can even drill down
to individual question levels for each student.

That's pretty much it for "That Quiz". It is handy for students to test their general knowledge, and even more useful to Teachers who can set online quizes for their classes to do, with subsequent full analysis of each individual's results.
